ABOUT

An evening surrounded by Hawaii's five majestic mountains

The Hale Hoaloha Lūʻau is a celebration of the beauty and stories of the land area known as Kalāhuipuaʻa. Considered the “piko” (center) of the majestic mountains of Haleakalā, Kohala, Mauna Kea, Mauna Loa and Hualālai – the Mauna Lani, Auberge Resorts Collection is a special place to all who have the privilege of enjoying its beauty.

Join us weekly for an incredible feast of the islandʻs finest cuisine, sourced land to sea on Hawaiʻi Island. Indulge in local favorites such as ahi poke, teriyaki chicken, and coffee-rubbed roast striploin - all served in an extensive buffet. Watch a traditional imu ceremony, as it begins in the early morning with the placing of the pig under banana leaves, ti plants, and hot rocks. Return in the evening to watch the uncovering of the underground oven and learn more about this traditional cooking method. Enjoy the complimentary welcome cocktail, keiki buffet, and fabulous desserts.

Mauka to Makai

Preliminary activities include Hawaiian makahiki games, played on the Hoaloha lawn. Guests are serenaded by live music and hula during dinner and then as torches light up the night sky – the production begins! Held under the stars, on the ʻili kūpono (land area) of Kalāhuipuaʻa guests participate in a very special opening and blessing. The celebration continues with tales of the five mountains that surround us and the history of Kalāhuipuaʻa. The friendships formed.. the food savored... the music, hula and spectacular fireknife finale are what makes this gathering at Mauna Lani a forever memory.

LOCATION

The Location

Kalāhuipua‘a is a raw and potent paradise, the piko (center) of Hawaii's five great volcanoes, and the point where volcanic plains meet the shimmering sea. Mauna Lani sits within Kalāhuipua‘a, a sacred realm whose astonishing natural beauty is equaled only by its primal, magnetic power. To walk this storied coastline, breathe the salt air, and swim in the crystalline waters is to feel the same mana—spiritual energy—that first drew people here centuries ago. This is where ancient Hawaiians mastered the art of aquaculture and where King Kamehameha came to recuperate and work in the fishponds.
